Corner Cabinet

This is a corner cabinet I recently finished for my wife. We used rough cut pine to achieve the look we were going for. We simply sanded the boards rather than planned them. (A lot of sanding.) This gave us a smooth finish yet you can see the saw marks in places, that gives it a tiger stripping effect. Once it was stained it really pulled the saw marks out.

We also decided to do a two part staining process called antiquing. Antiquing is when you apply one coat of a darker stain, then sand it back off in some places where natural ware would occur, then stain again with a lighter stain. This makes it look as if the stain is wearing in some places. It really complimented this piece.

We used some boards with wane in them. Wane is the result of a board being cut too close to the outside of a tree causing the contour of the tree to show. (I like the look it adds.) We also cut a log into quarters to use for the top and bottom trim boards.

Horse Creek Rustics is a company that my family and I have started. We are custom builders of hand crafted rustic furniture. We build one of a kind pieces using a log and plank style. Our building style is unique, we like to think of it as fine, yet rustic. That might sound like an oxymoron, but you decide for yourself. I describe it as, it looks like it could have been built 100 years ago by a talented craftsman on a farm or ranch somewhere, using the materials that they had available to them, then someone recently refinished and modernized it, to make it look new.
